With any injury to your child’s mouth, please contact Lakeshore Dental immediately. Depending on the injury, we may want to examine the affected area and determine appropriate treatment.
Any time a tooth sustains a blow there is the potential to damage the nerve. It may not show up right away, and/or may never show up, but it is important to have the initial injury evaluated.
If the tooth is broken or chipped it will need to be evaluated for the appropriate treatment to repair it. Broken or chipped teeth should not be left untreated because the tooth may be more susceptible to further damage and/or discomfort.
If a tooth is completely knocked out of the mouth by an injury, bring the tooth along with your child to Lakeshore Dental as soon as possible. Handle the tooth as little as possible – do not wipe or otherwise clean the tooth. Store the tooth in water or milk until you get here. It may be possible for the tooth to be placed back into your child’s mouth, a procedure called reimplantation.
Please do not hesitate to call us with any questions. We are here to help maintain the beauty of your child’s smile for a lifetime!
